When James (Mogo) Oka’s daughter, June went to clean a cushion from a chair that was handed down by her grandmother, she got a big surprise that November of 2019.
There was a hidden compartment that uncovered many old photos and documents. Among those treasures was her dad’s hymn book from when he was incarcerated at Heart Mountain.
June showed her dad and he was quite tickled while reciting his writing on the front:
