The Japanese American Museum of San Jose is set to host its third annual Summer Sake Fundraiser on Saturday, August 10, from 4 PM to 6 PM at 535 North Fifth Street, San Jose. This lively and engaging event, which brings together over 100 attendees, 20 volunteers, and a dozen food and sake vendors, provides a unique opportunity to explore the rich world of sake, set amongst the backdrop of JAMsj’s historic exhibits. Guests will be treated to an educational journey, discovering the subtle nuances of sake flavors and how they pair with different foods.
The fundraiser has previously welcomed notable guests such as the Consul General of Japan in San Francisco, the mayor of San Jose, and various state and local representatives, underscoring the event’s significance. This year, the lineup includes local vendors Omurasake, Sake Trend, Choya, Takara Sake, Ozeki Sake, Hapa’s Brewing, and TCHO Chocolate. This impressive array of vendors will provide samples and engage the guests on the history, making and characteristics of their products.
“This event is a pleasure to both host and to attend,” says Committee Chair Denise Matsuoka. “Not only does it provide an opportunity to expand people’s knowledge of sake, but it creates a festive and engaging atmosphere that brings folks to the Museum and into San Jose Japantown”.
In addition to the sake tasting experience and small bites, the event will feature a raffle with prizes donated by local merchants, adding an element of excitement and community support, as well as entertainment by local musicians, Kamiko Fujii and Anna Macan. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit JAMsj, supporting and sustaining the Museum’s mission of preserving and promoting Japanese American heritage in San Jose through its cultural and educational programs.
